Tencent Holds the First Youth Science Festival and Releases Science Focus List Jointly with SCIENCE
On January 20th, the first Tencent Youth Science Festival was held in Shenzhen which was hosted by Tencent under the guidance of the China Association for Science and Technology. It was a popular science event tailored for young people and the first one of the series events of Tencent Youth Science Program.
Tencent, the First Company Winner of the UNESCO Emir Jaber Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Prize for Digital Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities
Dec. 3rd, Paris——On the 27th World Disabled Day, UNESCO unveiled at its Paris headquarters the winners of the “Emir Jaber Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Prize for Digital Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities” in recognition of “outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations in promoting inclusiveness and enhancing the lives of persons with disabilities through digital solutions, resources and technologies.” Tencent won the Prize for its remarkable effort in this field. It is reported that Tencent is the first organization in Asia and the first company in the world to receive this Prize.
Tencent launched the “Security Knowledge” Network Security Protection Project for Senior Citizens in Beijing before the Double Ninth Festival
On October 16, Tencent launched the “Security Knowledge” Network Security Protection Program for Senior Citizens themed “caring for senior citizens and protecting the happiness of the family” in Beijing under the joint guidance of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Public Security, and the Publicity Department of the National Institute on Ageing. Chen Shiqu, Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigation Bureau under the Ministry of Public Security, Zhang Fengyan, deputy department-level inspector of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, Diao Haifeng, Director of the Publicity Department of the National Institute on Ageing, and Chen Yong, deputy general manager of Tencent‘s Security Management Department, attended the event to call on the whole society to safeguard online security for senior citizens with their own strengths.
Tencent Founders Donated RMB 350 Million to Establish a Talent Fund at Shenzhen University to Mark the Alma Mater’s 35th Anniversary
To mark the 35th anniversary of the Shenzhen University on September 21st, Tencent’s four founders of the Shenzhen-based Internet giant Tencent, namely Pony Ma, Zhang Zhidong, Chen Yidan and Xu Chenye, jointly donated RMB 350 million to their alma mater in the name of the Tencent founders’ alumni team. The donation shall be used as the startup capital to establish Shenzhen University Talent Fund. In particular, Pony Ma, chairman of the board and CEO of Tencent, donated RMB 200 million, while the other three co-founders each donated RMB 50 million. At the donation ceremony, President Li Qingquan of Shenzhen University presented Chen Yidan, the representative of Tencent founders’ alumni team, with a letter of appointment as the first honorary chairman of the Shenzhen University Education Development Foundation.

Rural Areas Embraces the Internet in the New Era with 14 All-for-one WeCountry Demonstration Areas in Five Provinces
On August 19th some 1,000 villagers, experts and representatives from all walks of life gathered in Heze City of Shandong Province to attend the Tencent WeCountry Conference. At this Internet conference of the Chinese farmers, discussions on the theme of “WeCountry for Everyone” were held to explore how to take advantage of the Internet to “connect feelings, information and wealth” in rural areas, innovate the grassroots social governance and develop the E-commerce in rural areas against the backdrop of building “digital China”, effectively integrate smart villages with rural revitalization, and help villages develop their own personalized Internet business card.
Tencent to Facilitate Youth Growth with “Technology + Culture” as Upgraded Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Youth Camp Kicked Off
On July 23, the second Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Youth Camp kicked off in Shenzhen. 110 high school student representatives from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao attended the opening ceremony. This year’s youth camp was initiated by Tencent and, for the first time, the New World Development Group was invited to co-host the event. In the following week, the students will experience a series of courses and training programs in science and technology, culture, social responsibility, art, etc., where we will enhance exchange and understanding, and experience the cutting-edge technology of the Greater Bay Area. Guests including deputy general secretary of the Shenzhen Committee of the Communist Youth League and honorary vice chairwoman of the Shenzhen Youth Federation Fang Lin, honorary vice chairman of the Guangzhou Youth Federation Pan Jianyong, director of the Educational and Scientific Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong S.A.R. Huang Yu, and executive vice president of the Hong Kong Association of Overseas-Returned Scholars Sun Dong were invited to attend the opening ceremony.
Tencent Forms Strategic Partnership with WWF to Build a “Beautiful China” with Digital Technology
April 20, 2018, SHENZHEN – Tencent and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) today announced a signed memorandum of understanding in Shenzhen to begin a strategic partnership. The two parties will jointly work to empower ecological conservation using digital technology. Beginning this journey from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, the alliance will explore a digitally-driven approach to construct the “beautiful Bay Area”, as a first step in a broader effort of building a “Beautiful China”.
