Tencent CEO Ma Huateng Recognized as One of China's 100 Most Influential Economic Figures; Ma Expresses Gratitude to Online Community and an Era of Reform and Openness

Mr. Ma sates that in the ten years of Tencent's development the company has always served the online community out of the principle of "improving people's quality of life through the Internet." Tencent has arrived at where it is today through the support of the online community and society. The honors and recognitions received by Tencent truly belong to the online community and the Era of Reform and Openness.

"China Economic Weekly" has recently published "China's 100 Most Influential Economic Figures since Economic Reform". These figures include Tencent Co-Founder and CEO Mua Huateng and 80 other entrepreneurs and 20 economists. Many overseas Chinese are also included in the list: Huo Yingdong Zeng Xianzi Shao Yifu Xie Guomin and Lang Xianping.

Since the last decade Mr. Ma has been an outstanding figure in the new economic order. "China Economic Weekly" summarizes Mr. Ma's achievements: "He has changed the way Chinese people interact and communicate with one another. He has created an Internet culture and brought about a brand new business model." Unlike many Internet nouveau riches "he is rarely seen dislikes interacting with the media and maintains a very low profile. But at the same time he is constantly carrying out his strategy of diversifying his company. From online portals online markets games to search engines Tencent is continuously expanding its operations. Led by Ma the Tencent team has changed the way Chinese people interact and communicate with one another created an Internet culture brought about a brand new business model and in the process gained the approval of China's Internet users. On a certain level business volumes handled by Tencent's QQ has accelerated the development of China's broadband infrastructure. The company has done an outstanding job in contributing to the development of China's Internet.

Recently published by the Data Center of China's Internet (DCCI) "Netguide 2008 China's Internet Survey Report" has pointed out that "Tencent's QQ has already become the uncontested leader in China's instant massaging market. Its market share leads by a wide margin owing to the company's strong ability to innovate." By September 2007 Tencent's QQ has 700 million registered users with 290 million active users. These users comprise 90% of China's Internet users. In china the reality of "going online means logging onto QQ" has become an Internet cultural phenomenon. Tencent's QQ Membership QQ Show and other value-added services have shown China's Internet a way to develop profitably through innovation. In September 2007 Tencent became the first Chinese Internet company to have a market value of more than 10 billion US dollars setting a milestone for the rise of China's Internet enterprises.

"China Economic Weekly" has explained that whether in terms of influence drive or innovation all figures mentioned in the "100 Most Influential" are representative of the best of China's business talents. In a press conference "China Economic Weekly" Chief Editor Ji Xiaolei states that major criteria for selecting the "100 Most Influential" are willingness to take risk ability to identify opportunities and tirelessness in providing sound theoretical foundations for economic reform. A member of the selection jury Professor Shen Baoxiang from Party School of the Central Committee of C.P.C points out that "driving the wave of economic reform in the last thirty years are precisely these pioneering figures who are also pushing for social and economic development."

"China's 100 Most Influential Economic Figures since Economic Reform" is sponsored by "China Economic Weekly"  with support from overseas and online editions of the People's Daily. Between February and April of 2008 "China Economic Weekly" plans to publish six additional lists on top of the "100 Most Influential" list.
