Tencent today announced the opening of its new, larger office at Menara 1 Sentrum in Kuala Lumpur, marking the latest milestone in the company’s growth in Malaysia.

The office, which will offer space for up to 500 staff, reflects the next step in Tencent’s long-term commitment to the local technology community in Malaysia, while also leveraging the local environment, talent, infrastructure, and connectivity to serve as a strategic international base.

Tencent has been an active part of Malaysia’s fast-growing digital economy since it entered the market in 2013, driving innovation and value creation across Games & Entertainment, Payments, AI, and Cloud.

Tencent Malaysia doubled the size of its workforce in 2025 and is on track to achieve strong double-digit growth by the end of 2026, with more than 90 percent of its Malaysia team being highly skilled professionals in development operations, data analysis, content compliance, and customer experience—reflecting Tencent’s commitment to developing local talent. The new office will also serve as a strategic base for Tencent’s international growth effort.

Strengthening Global Innovation Through a Local Impact

This new office will house Tencent’s Global Tech, Digital Innovation, and Customer Experience (CX) teams. It centralizes several high-value digital functions, strengthening Tencent’s global operations and contributing directly to the local economy and tech value chain.

“Tencent’s expansion in Malaysia demonstrates the growth of our digital economy and the ability of the local workforce to meet the demands of leading internet companies in today’s deeply interconnected global economy,” said YB Gobind Singh Deo, the Minister of Digital, Malaysia, at the launch ceremony. “We welcome Tencent’s continued commitment and investment in Malaysia as a strategic base for talent development and global collaboration.”

“Malaysia’s strong digital infrastructure, supportive policies, and highly skilled talent make it an ideal base for digital innovation,” said Judy Wong, Country Manager of Tencent Malaysia. “This new office marks the beginning of an exciting next chapter, where we will deepen our Cloud and AI innovation partnerships, support Malaysia’s digital ambitions, cross-border collaboration, and continue nurturing local creative and technology talent.”

Elevating Malaysia’s Leadership in the Global Digital Economy

Tencent Malaysia plans to expand its partnerships and business engagements to support the country’s rapidly growing digital ecosystem.

Tencent Cloud signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Opensys Technologies and Boost at the opening ceremony to deploy Tencent Cloud's PalmAI, strengthening the country's position as a testing ground for cutting-edge digital innovation.

Tencent is also deepening its involvement in Malaysia’s broader digital economy, in areas such as cross-border tourism, gaming and esports, and education.

With the 2024 integration of Weixin Pay with PayNet, visitors from China can now make transactions in Malaysia via Malaysia’s DuitNow QR code payment system, lending significant support to small businesses and the broader economy. As a result, transactions via PayNet surged 3x year-over-year during China’s famous Golden Week in early October.

Meanwhile, more merchants in Malaysia are embracing Weixin/WeChat's ecosystem, helping key merchants like KLIA Express launch its new Weixin Mini Program to capture significant business from Chinese tourists, in support of the country’s “Visit Malaysia 2026” campaign.

Tencent is exploring opportunities to anchor more international esports tournaments and creator-driven events in Malaysia, reinforcing the nation’s growing reputation as a regional hub for competitive gaming and digital culture. The inaugural Honor of Kings (HOK) Nation Clash 2025, hosted in Kuala Lumpur, saw Team Malaysia emerge as champions with a US$40,000 prize pool. To sustain the growth of the gaming industry in Malaysia, Tencent, through Level Infinite, has also partnered with Claz’room College to provide academic mentorship and internship opportunities to local students.

As Tencent accelerates its international expansion, Malaysia, with its vibrant ecosystem, digital-ready talent, and forward-looking digital policies, is poised to serve as a key hub powering innovation, connectivity, and digital experiences across the globe.
