An accessibility Game Jam uniting students and professionals to create video games that champion inclusive play.

‘Play Without Barriers’ is a high-level principles framework developed for the Game Jam and now shared more widely to shape inclusive video game design from the earliest stages.

Accessible Gaming - Inclusive game development

Tencent partnered with the University of Staffordshire in the UK to deliver an accessibility Game Jam, challenging 120 students to design video games that embed inclusion from the outset.

The event opened with insights from industry leaders including an MP, Ukie, Ubisoft, Lucid Games, SpecialEffect and Tencent, and featured a keynote from Mathew Allcock (‘The Wobbly Gamer’), who shared a powerful first-hand perspective on vision loss and accessible play.

Teams were challenged to create video games that were accessible from the start, supported by industry experts and advisors with lived experience.
